A few months ago I was looking for an easy race to do in the Hudson Valley area.
After some brief searching I came across quite an intriguing race title: Vino and the Beasts.
What could this be about?!
After doing some research and finding that this was an obstacle course race at a winery, with some vino included, I could not pass this one up!
One in our area no less – Millbrook Winery.
I signed up and my friend Chelsea joined as well.
Meg unfortunately had another event to tend to so she (luckily!) missed out on this one!
When race day came we thought, “What are we thinking?!”
We showed up, got our race bibs, wine glasses, t-shirts and wrist bands to show we were over 21.
There were a few businesses set up in tents, some food vendors and of course wine station for when the race was over.
We were pretty excited but also slightly nervous – neither of us had ever done one of these ‘warrior’ or ‘obstacle’ races before and we were not sure what was in store for us.
I wish I had been able to take photos along the way but I was not going to take that risk – some things are better stored in your memory anyway!
You’ll see a few photos of Chelsea and I below that ‘Vino and the Beasts’ posted.
(Which is why this post is so late – was waiting for their photos to be released!)
You can check out the Vino and the Beasts promo video at the bottom of this page to get an idea of what their ‘obstacles’ were really like!
Can you take us seriously?
We survived and although it kinda kicked our butts, it was totally worth it.
If we can survive this race, anyone can.
Upon finishing the race, participants were able to sample (5) of their selected Millbrook Wines or pick one of the (5) to fill all the way up!
Chels and I stuck with the Tocai Friulano.. YUM!
It definitely hit the spot after a tough 3.2 miles through the vineyard!
(And we made sure to fill up on water as well so we didn’t dehydrate ourselves!)
Although we love a good workout, we can’t wait to return to Millbrook Winery WITHOUT the running shoes!
