For the past 6 months my brother has been fulfilling his dream of traveling the world – 30 countries before turning 30 years old.. What a goal!
He left in November and recently returned with his 30th birthday right around the corner.
He booked an ‘Around The World’ ticket using credit card points – who would have thought!
While abroad he kept a blog with stunning photos and his journey across the globe – www.wherecouldibenow.com
During the last leg of his trip, I was trying to figure out a way to plan a surprise party upon his arrival.
Not so easy when I can’t even track down what country he is in!
He had so many ‘things to do and people to see’ upon returning that he wasn’t really able to commit to plans until getting back to the States.
A week or so before returning, he decided to plan a small gathering of friends on Memorial Day Weekend.
I tried to extend the invite to a few other friends to add some surprise element but it was a little too late – oh well!
I decided to use this opportunity to elaborate his little ‘Welcome Home / You’re Turning 30″ party with some Nixie food and decor!
I spent a lot of time going through old photographs of our younger years and got a lot of his photos developed from his trip.
I put together a menu of some easy, tasty salads while Dad handled the grill.
Some guests also brought some DELICIOUS grub – everything was devoured!
(Thanks so much everyone!)
Kale, strawberries, avocado, honey-sliced almonds with a honey-lemon vinagrette – YUM!
Can’t go wrong with a HUGE fruit salad!
Below is a list of where my brother has been in the past 30 years of his life..
- New Zealand
- Costa Rica
- South Africa
- Hong Kong
- Czech Republic
I loved going through old photographs of our younger years – he hasn’t changed a bit! 😉
(Love you Jay!)
And Jay cannot have a gathering without making his infamous GUAC!
It was great to be surrounded by friends and family on such a beautiful day!
And what’s a party without CAKE?!
My stepsister is a glorious pastry chef and made this delectable chocolate cake with a vanilla / raspberry center to celebrate his return home!
Welcome Home Jay!!!
We’ve MISSED you!!!
